South Korea’s Oceans Ministry in Seoul said five South Korean-operated vessels have exited the Strait of Hormuz. The ministry said 13 South Korean ships remain in the strait, carrying 87 crew members in total.
According to the ministry, Seoul is in contact with relevant countries to help the remaining vessels leave the area safely. The statement did not identify the ships or say when the departures took place.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key maritime chokepoint, and South Korea is monitoring the situation as it works to secure the passage of its remaining ships.
