Political strategist Ronen Tzur announced on Wednesday evening that he is quitting the primary race of the Democrats party, led by Yair Golan. Tzur had joined the newly united party only nine days earlier, and his withdrawal came with sharp criticism of its leadership and ideological direction.
In an interview with Channel 12's "Seven," Tzur said, "This is a party that is close to Ofer Cassif." He added that the process of "Mamdanzation," a term he used to describe positions associated with MK Naama Lazimi and her social economic views, would prevent the party from even being part of the next coalition.
Tzur's exit contrasts with his dramatic entrance on June 15, when he announced his joining at the party's "Victory Machine" event in Tel Aviv before about 1,500 activists. At that event, he presented himself as someone who knows how to crack the right wing's messaging and said, "I know how to beat them. I know how to defeat them. I know how to answer them in their own language. I know all the tricks and tactics, they are afraid of me, and therefore I will run and ask for your trust."
As of now, the Democrats have not issued an official response to his announcement.
