Strategic adviser and media figure Ronen Tzur has withdrawn from the primary race of The Democrats party, sharply criticizing what he says is the party’s ideological direction in recent years. In a statement, Tzur said the party is moving away from the political center and adopting positions that could make it harder for it to become a partner in a future government.
Tzur said the main reason for his decision was what he called “Mamdani-ization,” a term he used to describe a political line associated with prominent figures on the left. He argued that this trend is changing the party’s character and pushing away a broad pool of potential voters.
“זו מפלגה שקרובה לעופר כסיף,” Tzur said, adding, “התהליך של ממדניזציה יפריע לה אפילו להיות חלק מהקואליציה הבאה.” He said that the further the party moves in a sharper ideological direction, the smaller its chances of joining future governing blocs and influencing policy from inside government.
