Former Democratic Party Candidate Ronen Tzur Criticizes Party's Radical Shift and Ideology

Ronen Tzur, a strategic advisor and former candidate on the Democratic Party list, announced his departure from the party due to ideological differences. In an interview with journalist Sharon Gal on Galei Yisrael radio, Tzur explained that the party leadership under Yair Golan had adopted positions far removed from the pragmatic and security-focused approach historically associated with the Labor Party and Yitzhak Rabin. He expressed that the party had moved toward a much more radical left-wing ideology, closely aligned with the views of Offir Kassif, which he could not support.

Tzur also criticized the influx of what he described as a very radical faction into the Democratic Party, even more extreme than Meretz, which he said was steering the party toward controversial and divisive positions. He highlighted concerns about how the party's responses to security incidents have been perceived, particularly when they appear to sympathize with Palestinians involved in attacks or cast doubt on who is responsible, creating internal and public controversy.

This ideological shift and the party's stance on security matters were key reasons for Tzur's decision to leave, reflecting broader tensions within the Israeli left-wing political spectrum. His comments also shed light on why figures like Naftali Bennett have refrained from condemning statements by Yair Golan, which some view as radical.
