Opposition leader Yair Lapid sharply criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the backdrop of a Haredi protest against military service. In a post on X, Lapid said the anti-draft demonstration was being held by Netanyahu’s partners.
Lapid argued that instead of telling draft resisters they would receive no state money, Netanyahu was giving them more public funds while soldiers were being killed every day in Lebanon. He said those resources come from the “working and serving public” and are being used so Haredim will not enlist in the IDF.
Lapid concluded that Israel needs “a new agreement, a fair agreement between the government and the citizens,” one that says “we are all building the state here.”
