A 10-year-old girl was lightly injured by shrapnel on Wednesday morning while arriving with her mother at a school entrance in the Rakevet neighborhood of Lod, in what became a shooting scene. Magen David Adom evacuated both of them to Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, and the mother was defined as a trauma victim.
Lod Mayor Yair Revivo said children are a red line, and that anyone who brings violence and crime into a place where children and students are present has crossed “every human and moral boundary.” He added that the incident was a painful reminder that Israel’s fight against crime organizations must be waged with full force, without compromises or concessions.
Revivo said it is unacceptable for law-abiding residents, families and children to fear leaving home or reaching educational institutions because of criminal disputes. He called on the Israel Police and all enforcement bodies to act “with an iron fist,” bring those responsible to justice, and restore a sense of security to the city’s streets.
According to the report, the background to the shooting is a family feud in the Arab sector of the city. Police have opened an investigation, but at this stage there is no information about the shooters’ identities or who was targeted.
