President Donald Trump on Wednesday said the U.S. has not yet transferred any money to Iran, and repeated claims that the deal under discussion is delivering results. He rejected reports in Iranian media that Tehran plans to charge fees for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran had told the United States that, despite what he called misleading “fake news” reports, there are no transit fees, no insurance charges, and no other payments that Iran is demanding or collecting from vessels moving through the strait. He added, “If this information is wrong, the negotiation will end immediately!”
Trump also said the United States has not sent Iran any money and has not released any of Iran’s funds that are held by Washington. He said some of those funds would be freed for American farmers and ranchers to buy corn, wheat, soybeans and other crops.
He added that there is an urgent food need in Iran, and said the U.S. would buy that food exclusively from American suppliers.
