In a Fox News interview on Sunday afternoon, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a series of threats against Iran as his team was in talks with Iranian negotiators in Switzerland. He said the negotiations were not a deal with the Iranian regime, but only an extension of the ceasefire, and warned that Tehran’s time to strike an agreement was limited.
Trump said Iran had 60 days to meet its commitments. If it failed, he said, “I have 60 days, and then I will do what I want.” He also warned that if Iran tried to close the Strait of Hormuz, the United States might take control of it. “We may have to take over the Strait of Hormuz,” he said, adding that the U.S. is “the guardian angel of the Middle East.”
According to Trump, he also spoke with senior Iranian officials and told them that if they shut the strait, “you will not have a country” and “you won’t even be able to get back to your damn country.” He repeated that message in harsher terms during the interview.
Trump also responded to the Iranian president’s statement that Iran would not give up its right to enrich uranium. “He should keep his mouth shut, he should straighten up, or we will take over the rest of the country,” Trump said. The comments came on 21 June 2026, at 16:14, amid the ongoing diplomatic contacts.
