Former Likud minister Gilad Erdan announced on Wednesday that he is stepping down from the board of Israel Aerospace Industries. He told board members that he is facing “days of decisions” and therefore chose to leave the post.
Erdan said he will formally inform government ministers of his resignation after the board meeting. He added that he had come to the company with the intention of serving as chairman, but said the process was “not pleasant.”
He also said he believes Boaz Levy, who is expected to replace him, is the best possible choice for the role. Erdan said he would continue to be a “soldier and envoy” for Israel Aerospace Industries and the defense industries in any position he holds.
The report said the likely backdrop is the approaching election date. Erdan, a former ambassador to the United States and former public security minister, has been exploring a return to politics, including talks to form a new party ahead of the elections. Over the past two months, he has reportedly held contacts with Moshe Kahlon about creating a new right-wing party and possibly running together, despite earlier denials, as well as separate talks with Yuli Edelstein and Sharren Haskel.
