Elior Shemesh, who was introduced to viewers on "HaKokhav HaBa" together with her husband Avi Ashur when they separately competed on the show, revealed on Tuesday night that the couple has divorced after seven years together and married, and that the breakup began during filming.
Shemesh said she had long been fielding questions from followers about why Ashur no longer appeared in her posts and why they seemed so happy and in love on the program. "Ending a home is hard, ending a 7-year relationship is hard, but giving up on myself is harder," she wrote.
She then described going on stage for performances while emotionally broken. "I would go up to perform a moment after being shattered, dead inside and crying my eyes out, and I had to get on stage and perform as if everything was fine and act like we were still together. I could not say a word," she said.
Shemesh added that she is proud of herself for leaving a place that was not good for her and for choosing herself. The couple first met publicly on "HaKokhav HaBa," where each arrived as an individual contestant, but only Shemesh advanced to the show's lineup.
