Dr. Shira Baram, a fertility and gynecology specialist, has died at the age of 47. The Emek Medical Center in Beit She’an, where she worked, said she devoted her professional life to caring for women and helping families on their path to parenthood. The hospital described her as “a dedicated, professional and beloved doctor” who left a deep mark on colleagues and many patients.
Baram began her medical career at Emek Medical Center in 2006 during her internship year after finishing medical school. She later completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the hospital, then pursued advanced training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility in Toronto, Canada. After returning to Israel, she joined the IVF unit in the women’s and maternity division at Emek, bringing extensive knowledge and experience that helped many women struggling with infertility.
Alongside her clinical work, Baram was active in medical education, belonged to professional associations in Israel and abroad, and conducted research and scientific publishing. She coauthored a paper published in a prestigious international medical journal after the October 7 attacks about the condition of the hostages, a study that drew wide international attention.
The “Lema’anam” volunteer organization said Baram joined its community in 2024 and quickly became involved in its activities out of a sense of mission and generosity. It said she volunteered only about two months ago in home visits to homebound Holocaust survivors. Patients and colleagues also paid tribute, including one woman who said Baram had helped her have a child and that they had laughed together just the day before her death. Emek Medical Center said the family, including her husband Ouri Baram and the children, was being embraced by the hospital staff.
