Amit Asa, a former senior Shin Bet official, spoke Wednesday on Radio Gali Israel about the uproar surrounding David Zini. The dispute intensified after Channel 12 reported on Tuesday night that Zini had ordered the Shin Bet’s Pride events to be canceled.
Asa said some people are upset because Zini is “different” and does not belong to what he called the old leadership style that shaped the Shin Bet’s top ranks for years around a particular agenda. He added that former Shin Bet chiefs are now, in his words, very unified in their positions and are turning to the media and the legal system against the new Shin Bet chief.
According to Asa, anything Zini does is immediately framed as politically motivated in a way he said the media wants the public to hear. “What bothers me is that part of the public does not see things objectively,” he said.
The comments were made as Zini continues to face sharp criticism over the reported cancellation of the agency’s Pride events.
