Former member of Knesset Mohammed Barakeh was arrested on suspicion of incitement and brought before the Petah Tikva Magistrate’s Court for release under restrictions, according to a report Tuesday on Kan News. The judge said there was reasonable suspicion that the offense had been committed and ordered Barakeh barred from the Judea and Samaria area.
Barakeh served in the Knesset for the Hadash faction from 1999 to 2015. About three years ago, police questioned him on suspicion that he tried to organize an anti-war protest in Nazareth in violation of police instructions.
Police had said at the time that his activity could lead to incitement and harm public order. The article did not say what prompted the new arrest or what further steps, if any, are expected in the case.
