Bnei Herzliya announced on Tuesday that Yehu Orland will remain head coach for a third straight season after the club activated its option on him. He had been linked with Hapoel Tel Aviv, which was reportedly interested in him as an assistant coach, but he will not join the Reds.
Orland has now guided Herzliya for two seasons and led the team to the top four in both, before its playoff run ended against Hapoel Holon in the quarterfinals this spring. In his own remarks, he said he was “very happy” to continue and thanked chairman Lenny, Tal and Eldad for their trust.
He noted that after a successful first season, the club aimed to move forward and this year reached the State Cup final, played in the Basketball Champions League, and posted 18 regular-season wins to finish fourth. That standing also secured Herzliya a guaranteed place in next season’s BCL group stage.
Orland added that, had the war not hit the team hard, Herzliya would likely have reached at least the playoff semifinals. Looking ahead, he said the club wants to stay near the top of the table and keep improving in all competitions. Chairman Eldad Akunis said Orland had delivered “impressive achievements” while handling difficult situations, and that extending the partnership was the natural choice.
