The story in 5 lines · by baba

  • Trump doubts reports of Egypt/UAE warning Netanyahu before Oct. 7.
  • He believes Netanyahu would have acted if warned.
  • Trump avoided directly endorsing Netanyahu for another term.
  • He stressed U.S. support is vital for Israel's defense.
  • Trump reiterated concerns about Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated he does not believe reports suggesting Egypt and the United Arab Emirates warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about an impending Hamas attack prior to October 7. "I heard that today for the first time," Trump told TIME magazine in an interview published Thursday. He added, "I think if he knew he would have done something about it, and certainly he would have made people at least be alert."

When asked if the Israeli public should grant Netanyahu another term, Trump evaded a direct answer. He emphasized the critical role of U.S. support in Israel's defense capabilities, stating, "Israel would not have been able to defend itself against this power if the United States had not been there."

Pressed again on whether Netanyahu deserved another term, with the interviewer suggesting Trump seemed to be working on his behalf, Trump refocused on his primary concern: preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. "The main thing is that I want to help them defend Israel. The thing I keep mentioning is that Iran cannot be a nuclear power because they are crazy, and you cannot let crazy people have nuclear weapons."
