The story in 5 lines · by baba

  • MK Yoav Segalovich revealed his daughter is a lesbian to Mansour Abbas.
  • Segalovich stated he is proud of his daughter and her partner.
  • He acknowledged ideological differences with Abbas's party on LGBTQ+ rights.
  • Segalovich asserted he would vote according to his own views.
  • He stated that extreme positions should not dictate political cooperation.

Member of Knesset Yoav Segalovich disclosed in a Channel 13 interview that his daughter is a lesbian and that he shared this information with Mansour Abbas, the head of the United Arab List (Ra'am) party. Segalovich stated that his daughter's identity is not a secret within his family and that he is proud of her and her partner. He confirmed that Abbas is aware of his daughter's sexual orientation, having told him directly, "I told him I have a lesbian daughter."

When asked by interviewer Omri Asnaheim about Abbas's reaction, Segalovich responded, "What does he have to say? It's a party that has an opinion, I have a different opinion, as I also said in the statement. I am me and he is he. There will be places where I will remain me and he will remain he."

Asnaheim pressed further, referencing Ra'am's past actions in blocking initiatives perceived as beneficial to the LGBTQ+ community and whether Segalovich would vote against his party members on such issues. Segalovich affirmed that disagreements are inevitable on many topics between parties with differing ideologies, particularly between his more liberal stance and the conservative views of Ra'am. However, he concluded that the extreme positions of one side should not dictate the overall substance of their political cooperation, stating, "I decided not to."
