Israeli Rescue Flight Lands After Pilot Fight Forces Emergency Landing

An Israeli rescue flight carrying passengers stranded in Saudi Arabia landed in Israel on Wednesday evening. The passengers had been left behind after a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Medical teams met the passengers upon their arrival, with one 51-year-old man treated for a minor chest injury and taken to the hospital.

The evacuation was delayed earlier when some passengers initially refused to board the alternative Flydubai flight. They were eventually persuaded after Israel's Mossad intelligence agency confirmed the pilots and crew selected for the flight were safe and posed no danger. The passengers were stranded in Saudi Arabia following an altercation between the flight's two pilots, one of whom was armed with a knife. The plane suddenly descended and transmitted a distress signal.

Initial concerns in Israel included a possible hijacking, and later, Israeli sources told Reuters that a potential terror attack was also being investigated. The circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.

Since Israeli flights were not authorized to conduct the evacuation, an alternative Flydubai plane was dispatched. After the aircraft landed in Saudi Arabia and boarding commenced, some Israelis refused to board. Following the Mossad's confirmation regarding the flight crew's integrity, they were convinced to board, and the flight departed for Israel, landing safely on Wednesday evening.
