Israelis Rescued From Ethiopia After Three-Day Ordeal
A group of Israelis stranded in Lalibela, northern Ethiopia, have been successfully rescued after three days, the Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed on Wednesday. The Israelis became stuck in the region due to escalating security concerns.
The rescue operation was facilitated by intensive efforts from Foreign Minister G Gideon Sa'ar and the Foreign Ministry, in close coordination with relevant Ethiopian authorities and the Israeli Embassy in Addis Ababa. The ministry stated that helicopters airlifted the group to a secure area, from which they will proceed to Addis Ababa.
"The Foreign Ministry wishes to thank the authorities in Ethiopia for their commitment to the efforts, as well as all other parties who assisted in carrying out the rescue operation," a statement read. "The Foreign Ministry and the Israeli Embassy in Addis Ababa will continue to accompany the Israelis and assist them until their safe arrival in Addis Ababa."
