Netanyahu Aide Links Flight Scare to PM's Security Warnings, Slams Opposition

A senior advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Yonatan Urich, has publicly linked a recent aviation incident involving a Fly Dubai flight to the prime minister's security warnings issued the previous day. Urich accused opposition leaders, including Benny Gantz, Naftali Bennett, and Yair Lapid, of dismissing Netanyahu's concerns, stating, "They chuckled, today we all saw what happened. We must not let them lead Israel."

The incident involved Fly Dubai flight FZ1073, carrying dozens of Israeli passengers, which experienced severe distress and made an emergency landing in Tabuk, northwestern Saudi Arabia, after a violent struggle in the cockpit and a drastic dive. Dramatic footage from the plane and passenger testimonies of their efforts to save the aircraft turned the event into an international focus.

Netanyahu had issued an unusual public warning the day before, citing signs that enemies of Israel might attempt attacks ahead of upcoming elections. Opposition leader Yair Lapid initially questioned the timing and validity of the warning, suggesting it was politically motivated and demanding a security briefing. However, after receiving the briefing, Lapid shifted his criticism to the method of information dissemination, calling it "election videos" designed to incite public fear, while emphasizing the security establishment's readiness and opposing any election delays.

Urich's strong remarks came shortly after Lapid's change in tone. The political fallout from the flight scare is ongoing, while the Prime Minister's Office and security establishment are engaged in sensitive diplomatic efforts with Saudi Arabia to facilitate the swift return of all Israeli passengers.
