An Israeli man and a Montreal police officer were killed in a shooting in the Côte-des-Neiges district of Montreal, Canada, in an incident that is still under investigation. The Israeli Consulate General in Montreal identified one of the dead as Michael Moshe Mizrahi, 68, an Israeli citizen and a well-known member of the local Jewish community. According to reports, he was hit during the exchange of fire after being mistakenly suspected as one of those involved. He was critically wounded and later pronounced dead.
The other victim was Montreal police officer Mohamed-Lamine Ben Rhouan, who had served on the force since 2021. Police described his death as a major loss for the department and praised his sense of mission and professionalism. The shooter was killed at the scene, and another officer was seriously wounded.
The attack took place in an area with a large Jewish population, near a Chabad house, a kosher restaurant, and other community institutions. After initial reports of gunfire from a nearby hotel, large police forces arrived, evacuated civilians, and carried out extensive searches.
Canadian media reported that the shooter left behind a manifesto of about 100 pages, expressing anti-feminist views and calling for violent struggle against police. The document, which reportedly ran to dozens of pages, also attacked Western society, the pornography industry, and the economic system, and appeared to reflect ideas linked to the Incel ideology. Investigators have not yet determined whether the manifesto directly explains the choice of target. Montreal police chief Fady Dagher said the motive has not been definitively established and that all leads are being checked. ZAKA is working to bring Mizrahi for burial in Israel, while the incident has drawn wide attention in Canada.
