Former PM Bennett Warns Against Dismissing Netanyahu's Security Alert

Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett stated on Wednesday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's warning of potential security escalation ahead of elections should not be dismissed, especially in the wake of the October 7th attacks. Bennett, who has been a vocal critic of Netanyahu, emphasized that while he disagrees with the Prime Minister's actions, any security alert requires serious consideration.

Bennett criticized Netanyahu's past handling of warnings, stating that before October 7th, Netanyahu received numerous alerts and failed to act. He asserted that if Netanyahu is incapable of managing security, he should resign. Bennett also commented on Netanyahu's late-night call with opposition leader Yair Lapid regarding the security warning, suggesting that while the conversation may have contained information, the Prime Minister's role is to address threats rather than cause nationwide panic.

Netanyahu had previously warned that signs indicated Israel's enemies might attempt attacks around the election period. Reports from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) indicated no concrete intelligence linking the elections to an escalation, though a military source informed ministers that the defense establishment does perceive a threat.

Bennett had previously addressed Netanyahu's statements on Tuesday, reiterating that after October 7th, he takes all warnings seriously, even from a politician perceived as prioritizing political interests. He added that Netanyahu should focus on resolving security incidents before issuing public warnings or making media statements.
