Comedian Baba Rudy Discusses Career, Antisemitism, and Upcoming Shows

French comedian Baba Rudy, known for his appearances on television and social media, discussed his career and personal experiences in a recent interview on i24NEWS' "Ça se débat!". He gained wider recognition during the COVID-19 lockdown for his participation in "The Circle France" on Netflix, where he adopted the persona of a friend. Baba Rudy also appeared on the reality show "Mariés au premier regard" (Married at First Sight) to support a friend. He distinguishes between his social media presence, which he curates, and his live stage performances, emphasizing the raw, unedited nature of comedy on stage.

Baba Rudy is set to perform a series of nine shows at the Apollo Théâtre in Paris every Saturday from October 17 to late December, and will also participate in a play titled "Ensemble ou pas" on December 5. His stage act often surprises audiences with a more intimate and polished side compared to his "potache" and "beauf" online persona.

The comedian also addressed the serious issue of antisemitic comments he receives on social media. He explained his decision to openly embrace his Jewish identity, anticipating that it might be used against him. Baba Rudy shared an incident where a TikTok user, after seeing a photo of him wearing a kippah at his wedding, made a Holocaust-related slur and threatened to boycott him. He stated that while he can make light of such incidents, they are not humorous.

Instead of ignoring these attacks, Baba Rudy chooses to address them publicly, including on television and in his comedy shows, aiming to reclaim the narrative and transform hateful comments into material. He is also considering performing in Israel in the near future, having enjoyed a previous visit to Tel Aviv. Baba Rudy aims to use humor to entertain while confronting prejudice and personal attacks.
