Plane Lands Safely in Saudi Arabia After Pilot Brawl Triggers Hijacking Fears

A Flydubai flight en route from Abu Dhabi to Tel Aviv made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday following an unusual incident that initially raised fears of a hijacking. The aircraft, carrying approximately 180 passengers, about 100 of whom were Israeli, landed safely.

About 90 minutes before its scheduled arrival in Israel, a general distress call was received, followed by the transmission of "code 7500," an aviation code used to signal unlawful interference, including hijackings. Contact with the plane was subsequently lost, prompting the scramble of Israeli fighter jets.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz, and Transportation Minister Miri Regev held security consultations in response to the developing situation. After the aircraft landed safely in Saudi Arabia and the circumstances became clear, the Israeli fighter jets returned to their bases.

Flydubai confirmed that a brawl had broken out between the pilots, which led to the distress signal and the diversion. The airline's CEO informed Israeli officials that a replacement aircraft would soon depart Dubai for Saudi Arabia to transport the stranded passengers to Israel.
