TLVFest Announces 2024 Program Featuring International and Israeli Films

The Tel Aviv International LGBTQ+ Film Festival (TLVFest) will take place from October 22 to 31 at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque, marking its 21st year. This year's festival operates under a new artistic directorship led by Gili Porat and production by Yael Levi, following the departure of founder and artistic director Yair Hochner.

The international program includes award-winning films from major global festivals. Highlights include "Rose" by Markus Schleinzer, which earned Sandra Hüller the Silver Bear in Berlin and is Austria's submission for the 2027 Oscars. "The World of Gugu," Brazil's Oscar entry and a Berlin Crystal Bear winner, will also be screened, alongside Teddy Award winners "Ivan and the Dog" and "The Trial of Hine."

Feature films from the Cannes Film Festival will be shown, such as Bertrand Mandico's "Les Constellations" starring Marion Cotillard, "A Woman's Life," and "Another Day." American productions include the camp comedy "Stop the Train!" starring RuPaul and the crime comedy "Broke" featuring Kristen Stewart, Seth Rogen, and Gina Gershon.

Additional screenings feature "No Rest for the Wicked," a gothic drama based on the writings of LGBTQ+ rights pioneer Karl Heinrich Ulrichs, and "The Prisoner" by Alejandro Amenábar. The Israeli selection includes the premiere of "A Man Walking Down the Street," directed by Yuval Hadadi. Also showing are "Love You To Death," the final film by the late Nitzan Giladi, and "Independence" by Moshe Rosenthal, "Where To?" by Assaf Machnes, and "Grocery Store" by Yuval Shani, all featuring Ido Tako.

The documentary section will present films on social and political issues, including "Masculinity" about the male genital surgery industry, "The Fathers" on parents of trans children, and "What's Up, Extremists!" about LGBTQ+ refugees from Russia. Special events include a 30th-anniversary screening of the Wachowskis' "Bound" and a showing of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."

The festival will host competitive awards for feature and documentary films in both international and Israeli categories, judged by professional juries. TLVFest is produced by the Tel Aviv Cinematheque with support from the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality and the Ministry of Culture.
