Former prime minister Naftali Bennett responded to a New York Times report saying IDF commanders had received new orders limiting them to defensive actions only in Lebanon. In a post, Bennett said that when Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz announced at 11 p.m. the previous day that the IDF had full freedom of action in Lebanon, “they were not telling the truth. That is not correct.”
Bennett said he had spoken with soldiers and commanders currently in Lebanon and described what he said were the facts on the ground. According to him, soldiers can see Hezbollah militants but are not allowed to open fire on them.
He also said there had been incidents involving wounded soldiers that required extraction with heavy fire support, but that such support was not used, leading to harm to the troops.
