Hapoel Tel Aviv Secures First EuroLeague Win in Belgrade Thriller

Hapoel Tel Aviv achieved their first victory of the 2026/27 EuroLeague season, narrowly defeating Crvena Zvezda Belgrade 81-80 on Tuesday night. The win came after an opening-night loss to Bayern Munich.

Head coach Dimitris Itoudis praised his team's performance, calling the victory a "statement" of character and team play. "Winning here is a statement, and we are here, wanting to do good things this season," Itoudis stated. He noted that the team has had limited practice time due to injuries and other commitments but has successfully implemented their system and integrated new players.

Elijah Bryant, who was named the game's most outstanding player for Hapoel, reflected on the win as a learning experience. "It's a win and we'll enjoy it, but there are still things we can fix to improve," Bryant said. He credited Itoudis for pushing the team to play with intensity and unity.

Zach LeDay emphasized the team's 40-minute fight and physical approach. "We knew it would be a physical game in Belgrade, but we came to fight," LeDay commented. He also mentioned the team's short time together but highlighted their ability to learn and stay united.

Itoudis also expressed personal comfort playing in Belgrade, considering it a "second home." He reiterated the team's goal of connecting on the court to secure wins, which he believes they accomplished in this game.
