Ultra-Orthodox March Honors Draft Dodgers Released from Military Prison
Thousands of ultra-Orthodox men marched in Jerusalem on Tuesday evening to honor draft dodgers recently released from military prison. The procession began at the intersection of Brandeis and Bar Ilan streets and proceeded towards Yehezkel and Shmuel HaNavi streets.
Approximately one hundred draft dodgers participated in the event. Some attendees carried signs labeling the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as the "enemy army." One sign read, "Free the hostages from Prison 10 who will never serve in the enemy army." The organizers stated that the draft dodgers who attended would receive a financial grant of around 1,000 shekels.
Surprise gift bags were also distributed to children attending the march. These bags featured the message, "Reception for Torah prisoners who merited sitting in prison for the 'sin' of preserving Judaism."
