Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Muhammad Dahlan have agreed to form an electoral alliance, according to Palestinian sources cited by the Associated Press. The deputy secretary-general of Islamic Jihad, Muhammad al-Hindi, confirmed to AP that the parties intend to support a unified "national list." He stated that the list may include independent candidates rather than official representatives of the organizations.
This new union could potentially challenge Fatah, led by Mahmoud Abbas, in the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for November 28, provided they take place. The Palestinian Legislative Council last held elections in 2006.
Dahlan, a former senior Fatah official and a long-standing rival of Abbas, has maintained close ties with the leadership of the United Arab Emirates in recent years. A representative of his movement, Dimitri Diliani, also confirmed the agreement to AP.
