Israeli Media Figures Clash Over Security Agency Actions

A heated exchange on social media has erupted between Israeli media personalities over the actions of security agencies towards news outlets. The dispute began when Channel 13 commentator Nadav Peri accused the Shin Bet and police of becoming politicized "arms of the government" during the current term. Peri cited the Shin Bet's condemnation of Channel 12 and the police summoning a commentator from Channel 13 for questioning as evidence of this alleged politicization, warning that the danger to Israeli democracy has never been clearer.

Channel 14 host Yinon Magal responded sarcastically to Peri's claims, questioning the outrage over the security agencies' actions. Magal argued that it was illogical and undemocratic for the Shin Bet *not* to condemn a television channel for a censorship offense that endangered the Prime Minister, the head of the Mossad, the head of the National Security Council, and their teams. He also questioned why the police shouldn't investigate a commentator who allegedly broke the law, concluding with strong criticism, "What is this dereliction? Shame!"

Magal's sharp reaction comes in the context of a serious complaint filed by the Shin Bet with the chief military censor against Channel 12. The Shin Bet alleged that Channel 12 committed a severe censorship offense by reporting on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the UAE while his plane was still airborne and nearly 50 minutes away from landing in Israel. According to the Shin Bet and Mossad, this premature publication directly endangered the lives of the Prime Minister, his wife, the head of the Mossad, the head of the National Security Council, and security teams, and also exposed classified operational methods.
