A 52-year-old resident of the Old City, suspected of setting fire to a sukkah in Jerusalem for racist motives, will remain in detention until October 4. The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court extended his arrest on Tuesday at the police's request. The suspect was apprehended on suspicion of committing the arson in the Agrippas Street area of central Jerusalem.

During the court hearing, police presented the suspect's extensive criminal record. This includes previous convictions for security offenses, armed robbery, drug trafficking, property crimes, assaulting a police officer, breaking and entering, property damage, threats, violating a legal order, and arson. Notably, the suspect was convicted of four counts of arson in 2018 and has prior convictions for nationalistically motivated security offenses.

The police stated that the suspect has served prison sentences over the years, some of them lengthy. The investigation into the current incident is ongoing, and the police sought the extension of his detention to complete investigative actions, which the court granted.
