Chabad Emissaries Bring Jewish Traditions to Himalayan Trekkers
For 25 years, Rabbi Chizki and Chani Lipshitz, Chabad emissaries in Nepal, have been guiding Jewish travelers in the Himalayas. This Sukkot holiday, their journey included a sukkah, the Four Species, and a Torah scroll, items not typically packed for a Himalayan trek.
The Lipshitzes aim to connect Jewish travelers with their heritage while they are far from home. Their initiative ensures that participants can continue their journeys without leaving their traditions behind. "We try to make all the means accessible so that people can have a kosher Jewish trip wherever they are," Rabbi Chizki Lipshitz explained in a video from 'Moment of Wisdom'.
He further elaborated on the unique blend of adventure and religious observance, stating, "Even a kosher trek for Sukkot." Rabbi Lipshitz humorously described the unusual combination as "Jewish extreme," bridging the gap between the rugged Himalayas and the festive Jewish holiday.
