Israeli Guard Ben Chessar Feels More Comfortable Entering Second Nets Season

Israeli guard Ben Chessar is entering his second season with the Brooklyn Nets and the NBA, expressing increased comfort and confidence within the organization. Speaking at the team's media day, the 20-year-old guard reflected on his offseason work, particularly on improving his three-point shooting after a rookie season where he shot approximately 21% from beyond the arc.

Chessar stated, "Overall, I feel more comfortable today in the organization. I feel more comfortable with the players and the team, and that's very significant, it gives me a lot of confidence." A club source corroborated this, noting Chessar is "much more present off the court, he talks more with everyone. You can see that his confidence has really grown."

He emphasized his readiness for the upcoming year, having learned from his rookie season. "After the first season, I already know what I need to do better, both on defense, on offense, and off the court. I learned a lot from last season and I'm ready for the upcoming year." Chessar also highlighted his focus on shooting and gym work during the summer, aided by participation in the Summer League.

Anticipating competition for the backup point guard role, Chessar welcomed the challenge: "It's always good to have healthy competition for minutes, it brings out the best in every player and helps the whole team. I personally am ready for my competition." He agreed with teammate Michael Porter Jr.'s sentiment that the Nets should "dream big" and be "delusional," believing the team is underestimated and poised for a strong season after the positive summer experienced by the young players.

Nets coach Jordi Fernandez praised Chessar's dedication to improvement, noting his physical attributes and consistent work ethic. New acquisition Moe Wagner also spoke positively about Chessar, mentioning shared connections and his talent. Chessar also commented on the team's highly-touted young guards, Yegor Demin and Michael Brown Jr., praising their maturity and communication.

The Nets will begin their preseason against LeBron James's Philadelphia 76ers on October 8th.
