Israir Flight Returns to Ben Gurion Airport Shortly After Takeoff
A flight operated by Israeli airline Israir, flight number IS723, bound for Budapest, Hungary, was forced to return to Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) in Israel on Monday, just 40 minutes after its 4:38 PM departure. The aircraft landed safely back in Israel at approximately 5:33 PM. While the airline has not yet officially stated the reason for the diversion, it is believed to be due to a suspected technical malfunction discovered during the flight. Israir has arranged for a replacement aircraft to transport the passengers to Budapest.
This incident follows a separate event on Sunday where a United Airlines flight from Tel Aviv to Newark, New Jersey, diverted to Athens, Greece, shortly after takeoff due to a medical emergency involving a crew member. Following the diversion and landing in Athens, United Airlines canceled the remainder of the flight to Newark. The airline subsequently organized a different flight to transport passengers from Athens to Newark.
