Dozens of Israelis Trapped in Ethiopia Amid Renewed Fighting

Approximately 45 Israeli tourists are currently trapped in northern Ethiopia due to the resurgence of intense fighting in the Tigray region. One group of about 20 Israelis is reportedly making its way to the city of Mekelle under the protection of the local army, while another group of around 25 travelers remains in an area without immediate danger, with rescue options being evaluated.

These Israelis are reportedly in a besieged situation within the combat zone, unable to find a safe exit. Gadi Yevarkan, chairman of the "Tzomet-Beit Yisrael" list, is actively engaged in efforts to secure their release. He has appealed to Ethiopian Airlines to consider operating urgent rescue flights and is in contact with officials on the ground to ensure the Israelis' safe passage to a secure location.

Yevarkan emphasized the critical nature of time, stating that the situation can change rapidly and that inaction is not an option. He urged swift action to bring the Israelis to safety, utilizing any available opportunities.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously issued a warning, advising citizens against attempting to leave the area without confirming safe passage. Israelis in the Tigray region are instructed to update the Israeli Embassy in Addis Ababa with their location and contact details, and any changes thereof.
