Haifa Approves Major Urban Renewal Project Replacing Old Buildings With New Apartments

The Haifa Planning and Building Committee has approved a significant urban renewal project on Brenner Street in the Ramot Remez neighborhood. The plan involves demolishing two older residential buildings containing a total of 42 apartments to make way for a new development that will feature 182 apartments. The project includes the construction of a 29-story residential tower and an additional 10-story building.

The initiative covers approximately 4 dunams (about 1 acre) and is part of a broader strategic plan for the Neve Sha'anan district. Beyond residential units, the development will incorporate commercial spaces and public areas integrated into the buildings. The plan also includes widening Brenner Street and creating new access routes to Gan Zelig.

Khalit Gonen, Haifa's Deputy Director of Planning, stated that the project aims to revitalize older buildings while creating a modern residential complex, considering Haifa's challenging terrain and vegetation. Ruth Schwartz, Chair of the Haifa District Committee, highlighted it as one of the first large-scale renewal plans in Neve Sha'anan, balancing public interests with infrastructure improvements and environmental considerations.

The project was initiated by apartment owners who formed a group and selected Avnei Derech Urban Renewal Ltd. as the developer.
