Agudath Israel Launches Election Campaign with Focus on Yeshiva Students

Agudath Israel has commenced its election campaign with a gathering in Bnei Brak attended by dozens of Hasidic community leaders and representatives. The event, part of a broader strategy to engage with the public ahead of upcoming elections, featured speeches by Knesset Member Meir Porush, designated MK Elyakim Stark, and former MK Moshe Shimon Rot.

The meeting, hosted by local Agudath Israel representatives, aimed to foster unity within the Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) community and address concerns regarding the status of yeshiva students and the perceived persecution of Torah scholars. The campaign's initial event emphasized the importance of electing representatives who will advocate for religious issues in the Knesset.

Knesset Member Meir Porush invoked historical precedents, referencing the post-Holocaust era when Jewish leaders, despite immense loss and awareness of Zionist movements, still called for electing representatives to fight for Judaism, Shabbat, and Torah study. He acknowledged current anxieties about voting choices but stressed the historical imperative of having a voice in parliament.

Designated MK Elyakim Stark apologized for the failure to secure the status of yeshiva students and yeshiva scholars, vowing to work collaboratively to find solutions. He highlighted the need for unity, drawing parallels to the atmosphere of unity within the Sukkah (a temporary hut used during the Jewish festival of Sukkot), as a guiding principle for future efforts.

Former MK Moshe Shimon Rot described the past three years as difficult for Torah scholars and characterized the upcoming election as critical for the survival of the Haredi public. He urged strong voter turnout to empower representatives to overcome adversaries and protect the community from those seeking to harm it.
