Jet Ski Operator Fined Heavily for Reckless Boating Near Swimmers

A Tiberias Magistrate's Court has imposed a fine of NIS 15,000 on a jet ski operator for dangerous boating near the shores of the Sea of Galilee. The court also stipulated that failure to pay the fine would result in a 75-day prison sentence. Additionally, the individual must provide a NIS 5,000 bond for three years, guaranteeing they will not commit similar offenses.

According to the indictment, in June, the defendant operated a jet ski at speeds exceeding five knots, performing dangerous maneuvers approximately 15 meters from the shore. In another incident, he entered the 300-meter zone from the coast with a passenger, while simultaneously towing an inflatable tube carrying two people. The prosecution alleged that during these rides, he increased his speed and executed maneuvers that endangered both passengers and swimmers in the area.

The ruling was made as part of a plea agreement following charges filed by the Kinneret Cities Association. The association highlighted an intensified enforcement effort against boating offenses that endanger swimmers in recent months, with documentation of serious incidents being forwarded for legal review and potential prosecution. Since June, the association also expanded the safety violation zone from 50 to 100 meters from the water's edge.
