Quentin Tarantino has been cast in a new film by Welsh director Jamie Adams, according to a report published Monday by Variety. The announcement followed social media clips from the weekend showing Tarantino on set with Australian pop star Kylie Minogue, who is also part of the cast.
This is not Tarantino’s first collaboration with Adams. He recently appeared in Adams’ Only What We Carry, which premiered earlier this month at the Tribeca Festival. Minogue also appears in that film, along with Simon Pegg, Sofia Boutella and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
The new project, whose title and plot have not yet been released, will also feature Welsh actors Karen Pold, Julian Lewis Jones, Craig Russell and Sion Morris. Tarantino is best known as an Oscar-winning writer-director, but he has increasingly acted in films, including his own productions.
Earlier this year, Adams told Variety how the Tarantino casting came together. “I sent him the synopsis and a letter,” he said, explaining that he was very direct about his belief in Tarantino as an actor. “I thought it could be amazing in character. I did not think I would hear back.” Two weeks later, he said, Tarantino’s agent emailed to say he was intrigued and wanted to meet on Zoom. Adams recalled that the call quickly turned into a wide-ranging conversation about films, the Welsh sitcom Gavin & Stacey, and their personal lives. He said Tarantino later told him he loved the first conversation because he felt, “Okay, we’re going to direct me.” Two days later, Adams said, Tarantino was in the project.
