Gush Etzion Children Read Nearly 5,300 Books in Summer Reading Challenge

The Gush Etzion Regional Council has successfully concluded its first-ever regional library summer reading challenge, with local children reading a total of 5,297 books during their vacation. The initiative, launched this year to promote reading, curiosity, and enrichment among young people, involved participants tracking their reading progress on personal record cards.

The program saw impressive participation from hundreds of families across the council's communities. Alon Shvut led the way with 84 participants who collectively read 1,567 books. Nokdim followed with 50 children reading 1,217 books, and Pnei Kedem had 60 participants reading 874 books. Other participating communities included Neve Daniel (44 participants, 738 books), Rosh Tzurim (20 participants, 321 books), Giv'ot (27 participants, 300 books), and Migdal Oz (26 participants, 280 books).

At the conclusion of the event, the top readers from each community library met with the head of the council, Yaron Rosenthal. He congratulated them for their perseverance, curiosity, and demonstrated love for reading. Council management and library staff praised the supportive parents and the extensive community cooperation that made the summer months a culturally enriching and educational experience.
