Jewish Music Awards Honor Top Artists in Viewer-Voted Ceremony

The Jewish music website Kikar HaShabbat held its annual "People of the Year in Music" awards ceremony, celebrating the most impactful artists and songs of the past Hebrew year, תשפ"ו (5786). This year's awards were unique as they were determined solely by hundreds of thousands of public votes, bypassing traditional selection committees.

The ceremony, hosted by Kikar HaShabbat's music editor Eli Gutfeld and musician Shuki Salomon, highlighted how Jewish and Hasidic music has evolved from background soundtracks to a source of national healing during times of hardship. The broadcast featured live performances and interviews with the winners.

Key categories included Singer of the Year, who achieved a massive victory and performed live with keyboardist Simcha Abramczyk. Song and Duet of the Year recognized anthems of "free love" that transcended community boundaries. Clip of the Year honored a powerful visual work born from wartime experiences, which reportedly evoked a deeply moving moment in the studio. Discovery of the Year celebrated a "modern Carlebach" artist whose pure creations resonated strongly with the public. Comeback of the Year marked the return of a significant figure in Hasidic music.

Additional awards presented were Composer of the Year, Arranger of the Year, Keyboardist of the Year, Performance of the Year, and Rapper of the Year, all chosen by the audience. The broadcast aimed to provide an hour of musical enjoyment and uplift viewers during the Sukkot holiday.
