Dallas has found a new head coach about a month after Jason Kidd left the job. Dusty May, who coached Michigan to the NCAA championship this past season, has reached an agreement to take over the Mavericks, according to Shams Charania.
May guided Michigan on the bench through a title-winning season and is now set for his first NBA coaching job. The move is being described as the first time since 2019 that a college coach has gone directly to the NBA, when John Beilein, also a former Michigan coach, left for Cleveland.
Charania said the hiring could reshape both the NBA and the NCAA, with a possible chain reaction of coaching appointments to follow. For May, it is also a major leap professionally, as he will now coach young star Cooper Flagg in Dallas.
