Former Israeli national league soccer player Murad Abu Anas has ignited controversy among Israeli football circles following his social media posts praising international players for gestures perceived as supportive of Palestinians. Most recently, after Ireland's victory, Abu Anas shared a photo of Irish player Jack Byrne kissing a black armband, captioning it "Thank you Ireland." This follows previous posts where he celebrated players making pro-Palestinian statements, including a post congratulating "La'ameen Yamal and the Palestinian people" and another featuring Pep Guardiola wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh.

M Murad Abu Anas, 39, is a well-known figure in Israeli football, having played in both the National League and the Premier League. He spent significant portions of his career with Hapoel Bnei Lod, becoming closely associated with the club. His career also included stints with numerous other Israeli teams such as Maccabi Kiryat Gat, Maccabi Petah Tikva, MS Ashdod, Hapoel Acre, Maccabi Ahi Nazareth, Hapoel Umm al-Fahm, Maccabi Tamra, Beitar Nordia Jerusalem, Ironi Kuseife, Tzeirei Tayibe, and Maccabi Ramla. By the end of 2024, Abu Anas had scored a total of 123 league goals throughout his career. His most prolific period was with Bnei Lod, where he scored 72 league goals in his first tenure and an additional 17 in later stints. In the 2011/12 season, he was the top scorer in the National League with 19 goals.
