Mother Recounts Daughter's Teenage Marriage Amid Community Pressure

A mother from Yavniel, identified only as Dvora, has spoken out about her 17-year-old daughter's marriage, which took place on her 17th birthday after a three-month engagement. According to Dvora, her daughter decided to move in with her father in Yavniel at age 16, and within three months, an engagement was arranged. Dvora stated she tried to persuade her daughter to wait until she was 18, but feared alienating her if she resisted. The wedding ceremony was reportedly held at home to evade authorities, but police arrived during the event. Dvora claims she was the one who alerted the police and has since experienced a complete estrangement from her daughter.

Approximately two months after the wedding, Dvora discovered her daughter was pregnant, a fact revealed through a notification from her health insurance app, as her daughter was still listed under her name due to being a minor. Dvora described this as a shock.

Dvora alleges that early marriages are presented within her community as a way to prevent "sins" and manage youthful desires. She claims that girls are educated from ages 14 or 15 to aim for marriage, and those who reach 17 or 18 unmarried face social pressure. Dvora decided to speak publicly after remaining silent for about six months, prompted by the recent engagement of another minor, around 15 and a half years old, within her family's social circle.
