Minor Injured in Grenade Attack in Tarshiha, Officials Vow Action

The deputy mayor of Ma'alot-Tarshiha, lawyer Muhammad Mahmoud, revealed new details regarding a grenade attack on a home in the town that resulted in the moderate injury of a minor girl. Mahmoud emphasized that the girl was not the intended target, stating her injury occurred as a result of the grenade being thrown towards the house. He described the incident as alien to the town's peaceful nature and part of a broader wave of violence affecting the Arab community.

Mahmoud suggested that recent criminal acts in Tarshiha are linked to individuals from outside the town who have disputes with residents, introducing violence and crime. He stressed that this particular incident is isolated and does not reflect Tarshiha's character, vowing that the municipality will not allow such phenomena to become normalized.

In response to the attack, the municipality held a meeting with the Ma'alot Tarshiha police chief and approved a budget of one million shekels for advanced surveillance cameras to be installed throughout the town. The municipality will also work with the police to use available technology to track down the perpetrator and bring them to justice.

Mahmoud urged authorities and the Ministry of Internal Security to address the escalating violence, warning of potentially fatal consequences if such incidents continue. He also noted that the municipality would discuss further preventative measures with the school principal, as the injured girl is a student. The school year's plan already includes lessons on the dangers of violence, which the municipality intends to enhance following this incident.

Mahmoud reiterated that Tarshiha is known as a quiet town with interfaith coexistence and stressed the importance of confronting violence early to prevent its escalation.
