Two Years After Nasrallah's Assassination, Hezbollah Struggles to Adapt

Lebanon is marking the second anniversary of the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, an event that significantly altered the organization. Memorial ceremonies and speeches are being held to honor his memory. Nasrallah, who led Hezbollah for over three decades, was known for his constant threats against Israel, boasting of the group's capabilities, and cultivating an image of understanding Israel well enough to deter it. He also framed the deaths of Hezbollah operatives as victories.

However, in September 2024, Israel challenged this narrative, and Hezbollah found the post-Nasrallah era to be far more complex. Following his death, Hezbollah experienced a profound blow, evident from the initial public appearances of his successor, Naim Qassem, the new Secretary-General. Qassem's early statements indicated a shift in the organization's reality.

Two years later, while slogans and promises to continue Nasrallah's path persist, the situation on the ground suggests Hezbollah has yet to fully recover or determine how to proceed without the leader who guided it for so long. The messages of loyalty to the slain leader, once prominent among supporters, continue to resonate and are being passed down to the younger generation.
