Second J/70 Sailing Competition Held in Tel Aviv Marina

The second event in Israel's J/70 sailing competition series took place recently at the Tel Aviv Marina. This series, featuring the globally popular J/70 racing sailboat, aims to foster a connection between professional sailing and the educational and social activities of the Ziv Ne'urim association.

The competition included participants from Ziv Ne'urim, at-risk youth, and reservists supported by the organization, alongside experienced sailors like Gal Cohen and Tomer Bruckman. The event emphasizes sportsmanship, education, community, and personal resilience, requiring participants to work as a team under pressure.

The "Chalfinio" team, led by Kiril Rechter, secured first place. "Kavanga," captained by Ohad Swissa, came in second, and "Balagan," led by Ilya Koblanov, finished third. The "Kavanga" team included naval officers from the "Migdalor" organization, which supports naval officer alumni in leadership development.

This event is the second of six planned competitions in the league, organized by Ziv Ne'urim and the Yam Sailing Club, managed by Gal Cohen. The goal is to establish a regular racing series for the J/70 class and expand participation.

The J/70 is described as a fast, tactical, and accessible keelboat, approximately 7 meters long, popular worldwide for competitive sailing and training future generations of sailors. Ziv Ne'urim, founded by former members of the naval commando unit Shayetet 13, has been working for over 26 years to support at-risk youth through challenging maritime activities. The association has expanded its programs to include evacuees, bereaved families, and military personnel seeking a supportive environment.
