Israeli-Russian Couple Detained in Montenegro With Cash, Spy Gear

Montenegrin police detained a couple with dual Israeli-Russian citizenship at Tivat Airport as they attempted to fly to Tel Aviv. The couple, identified as 31-year-old Alexander Kruglyansky and 42-year-old Alexandra Kruglyanskaya, drew attention due to an excessive amount of luggage, consisting of nineteen suitcases and bags.

During a search of their belongings, authorities discovered large sums of cash and specialized electronic equipment. Montenegrin officials stated that some of the devices could potentially be used for covert surveillance and espionage. The man, Kruglyansky, reportedly has a background in technology companies in Moscow.

Following the airport detention, police conducted searches at the couple's temporary residences in the cities of Budva and Bar. These searches uncovered additional technological devices and approximately one million euros in cash. The couple has been formally accused of smuggling and money laundering.

A court ordered the couple to be held in custody for one month. Despite the discovery of potential spy equipment, no official charges related to espionage have been filed against them yet. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with experts examining the seized data storage devices.
