Anti-Racism Group Slams Arab Candidate Disqualifications

The anti-racism organization Karama stated on Sunday that the Central Elections Committee's decisions to disqualify Arab lists and candidates represent another link in a chain of institutional and systematic discrimination and racism against Arab citizens. The group asserted that these decisions are part of ongoing policies that limit the political rights of Palestinian citizens.

In a statement, Karama explained that these policies extend beyond preventing political representation in elections, forming a broader structure of inequality in rights and political status. This structure dictates the limits of participation and representation based on different national affiliations.

Karama believes the disqualifications reflect continued policies aimed at solidifying Jewish dominance and supremacy in the political and institutional spheres. This is achieved by narrowing the space available for Palestinian citizens to exercise their political rights, both individually and collectively.

The organization views the disqualifications not as an exceptional deviation from political equality but as an exposure of the inherent limitations placed on such equality, revealing a structural imbalance in the distribution of political power, representation, and privileges.

Karama strongly condemned the disqualifications and exclusions, arguing they entrench political exclusion and structural discrimination against Palestinian citizens. The group warned against using legal and electoral mechanisms to perpetuate political segregation and national hierarchy.

Karama highlighted that these actions could subject the right of a segment of citizens to organize, be represented, and participate politically to restrictions not similarly imposed on Jewish parties and candidates. The group emphasized that the political representation of Palestinian citizens is not a grant within an inherently equal system, and their right to political participation is part of their collective and individual rights that should be exercised equally.

Karama announced it will closely monitor the details of the Central Elections Committee's decisions and the appeals process before the Supreme Court, reaffirming its commitment to combating political exclusion and structural discrimination and defending the rights of Palestinian citizens to organize, be represented, and participate politically on equal footing.
