Israel Soccer Team Told to Ignore Irish Provocations, Focus on Winning

The Israeli national soccer team has been instructed by Football Association chairman Shino Zuarz to ignore any provocations from the Irish team ahead of their upcoming match. Zuarz emphasized that the team's focus should be solely on the game itself, stating, "We are not responding to anything, maintaining sportsmanship and not addressing their statements. We are going out to win on the field, you will respect the Irish anthem, for you it's shaking hands and exchanging pennants, our victory will only be in football."

The Israeli team has attempted to shield its players from the "chaos" reportedly surrounding the Irish squad, who are staying in a hotel a few streets away in Debrecen, Hungary. As a proactive measure, Israel canceled the traditional pre-game meeting with the Irish delegation.

Despite the external tensions, the Israeli players are also reflecting on their recent weak performance against Austria, where they conceded three goals, continuing a trend from their last World Cup qualifying campaign which saw them with one of Europe's weakest defenses. However, the anticipated charged encounter with the Irish is a major topic of discussion. "They have no idea what's going on with us, but they are constantly talking. We need to come and beat them on the field, that will be our biggest victory," one player commented, adding, "We are coming as athletes to this encounter, we will respect the anthem, the handshake, but we will come to beat them and their antisemitic coach."

Amidst the perceived hostility from the Irish camp, the Israeli team is primarily focused on recovering from their loss to Austria and learning lessons for the upcoming game. Coach Ran Ben Shimon faces criticism for his game management, and is expected to make three changes to the lineup: Gabi Kanyukovsky will replace Dor Peretz, Dor Turgeman will come in for the suspended Sa'id Abu Farchi, and Raz Shlomo will start in defense instead of Idan Natchmias.

Goalkeeper Daniel Peretz faces a unique situation, as the tension between the national teams could spill over into his club team, Southampton, where two Irish teammates play: Finn Azaz, whose mother is Israeli, and Ryan Manning. Peretz stated, "I have two very good friends there from Southampton. We are coming to play football, that's what we do. The best way is to do our best on the field. Obviously, the talk bothers us, but it comes from ignorance. Not one person there truly understands and knows, but that's their issue. We are coming in peace, if they choose not to, that's their choice. We want to try and win and that's what we're focused on."
