Israel Warns Citizens to Avoid Travel to Bangkok Amid Severe Flooding

Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, has declared a state of emergency due to extreme weather conditions causing severe flooding across all 50 districts of the city. Heavy rainfall, exceeding 300 millimeters in two days, has overwhelmed the city's canal system, leading to widespread inundation. Residents have been advised to stay home, and those living near canals were instructed to move belongings to upper floors.

The Israeli Embassy in Bangkok issued an unusual travel warning for Israeli citizens in the area. Citing the severe weather, ongoing rains, and the risk of further flooding expected until Monday, the embassy recommended avoiding non-essential travel and ferry services. Israelis were urged to remain vigilant, monitor local media, and follow the directives of Thai authorities.

The Thai Meteorological Department forecasts continued heavy rain throughout the coming week, raising concerns about more canals overflowing. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt stated that authorities are working to pump water out but that the canals are full. He noted that the eastern part of the city has been the hardest hit and expressed hope that the problem would be resolved if no further heavy rain occurs.
